COMENTS: We moved into the marina so that we could easily receive Mike and Kelly when they arrived from the airport! We cleaned all day and planned for their arrival. We had dinner at Peace and Plenty while waiting for their 8:30 pm flight. Their flight was delayed in Miami but due to poor service on our satallite. phone, they could not let us know that their flight was changed. They arrived around 9:30 pm and we were thrilled! .

ANCHORAGE/MARINA: St. Francis Marina mooring ball

COMMENTS: Mike was anxious to play volley ball at Volley Ball Beach. We spent time shopping before we left Exuma Docking Services Marina. Mike & Kelly wanted to pick up some souvenirs to take home to friends and family. There weren’t enough people to play volley ball so Mike, Kelly, Toby and I played spades on the beach. We had dinner at Chat n Chill.

Kelly, Toby, & I cheered his team on! Later, Kelly jumped in and played a few games. They had a great time except Mike hurt his big toe. Playing barefoot in the sand can still cause injuries.

The morning and early afternoon was then spent doing laundry, grocery shopping and preparing the boat for Jason & Debbie’s arrival at 3:30 p.m. today. We had dinner on the boat and just caught up on our lives for the past year. Jason & Deb took a walk but were really ready to turn in for the night around 11 p.m. as they were on PDT coming from San Francisco. They had spent the night before in Nassau but played late.

MILES: (1765)

ANCHORAGE/MARINA: Volley Ball Beach anchorage

COMMENTS: Today was pretty much a wash for fun. It took most of the day on Wifi at JK Enterprises trying to change Jay & Deb’s flight reservations. We did some provisioning also, so not all was lost.

DATE: April 25, 2007

MILES: (1765)

ANCHORAGE/MARINA: Volley Ball Beach anchorage

COMMENTS: Jason & Deb visited the local shops and straw market to pick up some souvenirs for themselves, family, family & friends. They bought us Family Regatta tee shirts which will definitely be worn this week. They also bought me a beautiful Hamburger Bead bracelet. Later, we attended an ARG potluck. Debbie really wanted to race in the Family Regatta. Oliver announced over the VHF radio that some Bahamian boats needed a few crew members so we promptly answered and got Debbie on an A-Class boat from Nassau named Pieces of Eight. We were so excited, we could hardly sleep. This is like a chance of a life time. Deb grew up sailing with her dad and was thrilled to be sailing again. We were thrilled for her!

DATE: April 26, 2007

MILES: (1765)

ANCHORAGE/MARINA: George Town Exuma Docking Services Marina

COMMENTS: Debbie was so excited to be racing! The Bahamian sailboats are quite different from the normal sailboats we are used to. They have narrow boards that slide out where as many as 6 crew members sit. They sit out over the water on these boards providing counter weights to keep the boats from capsizing. Also, if any crew members fall off these boards into the water, the boat is automatically disqualified! You have to check out our pictures on our photo gallery to appreciate what I am saying. It’s a beautiful sight to say the least. Pieces of Eight started out in 1st place. They didn’t win the race but made a great showing! Later, we enjoyed all the partying and Jason & Deb told me they closed down Peace & Plenty dancing and making many Bahamian friends. Toby & I went to the temporary reopening of Two Turtles which is one of our favorite places.

DATE: April 27, 2007

MILES: (1765)

ANCHORAGE/MARINA: Exuma Docking Services Marina

COMMENTS: We spent the day enjoying the food and music of the Regatta. We are so glad that we stayed a week longer and that Jason & Deb did as well. Lots of dancing again and just getting in with the wonderful culture of the Bahamians.

DATE: April 28, 2007

MILES: (1765)

ANCHORAGE/MARINA: Exuma Docking Services Marina

COMMENTS: What a thrill we had watching Debbie race again on the S/V Pieces of Eight. Oliver on S/V Dejarlo also crewed again. Tonight was the last night of the Regatta so you know it was party time. There was a major parade performed by the Bahamian Police Band. They performed for about and hour and it was awesome. Then, they had the Awards Ceremony at 8 p.m. Afterwards, there was lots of dancing in the streets and celebration beyond belief. We had a wonderful time.

DATE: April 29, 2007

MILES: (1765)

ANCHORAGE/MARINA: Monument Beach anchorage

COMMENTS: Unfortunately, Deb & Jay had to leave. It was a wonderful visit for all of us but all great things must end. We will miss them so much. We moved to the anchorage for the night and plan to start heading back north in the morning.

DATE: April 30, 2007

MILES: (2016) Emerald Bay is only an hour or so away from George Town but we meandered a bit to do some fishing!

ANCHORAGE/MARINA: Emerald Bay Marina

COMMENTS: Well, the fishing was a real success as we caught a 42” Mahi while traveling to Emerald Bay!!!! We now know we won’t starve! Tee hee! We did laundry and some serious boat cleaning during the day and then attended a dock party in the evening.
